Compact external controller The first button is for changing light brightness: 100%-77%-55%-32%-10%. The second button is for shifting light modes: White Les, Blue+white+red Leds, Red+ blue Leds. The third button is for lighting time setting: there is an indicator light above it, it will turn 3 colors in turn when you press the button. Yellow -3 hours, green-6 hours, red- 12 hours.The last button is on/off the light.

Star ratings explained:BRIGHTNESS FUNCTION – five stars because it is bright! Very bright!TIMER FUNCTION – ZERO STARS Whats to rate???? It’s a OFF timer like the Sleep function on your TV in 1972. Not a feature to brag about man, more like pimple your trying to hide. Heres the feature: You can turn it OFF in 3 hours, you can turn it OFF in 6 hours, and wait for it……you can turn it off in yes…..12 friggin hours. NICE. Oh yeah AND you can turn it OFF in NOT NEVER! hours. so…..friggin…..cool………..I Wanna do it again tomorrow, yup, press the stupid button again for 3,6,or 12. not programmable captain.WATER RESISTANCE – ZERO STARS – Its going to be around water, near water or within inches of water right? I dont want water resistance, I want water proof. Its not. I sealed mine up with aquarium silicone around the edges for my case only. I broke the rules. No tank lid and it’s extended like a ballerina on a tight rope, because my tank is a too long for the size i got. My junk is hanging by metal wires one inch above certain electrfying death. The longer one is too long and that is just plain ugly. I don’t buy ugly on purpose. Aesthetics over safety? in this case yes. My bad.One year of ownership and now I write my review of this light. Why? Its marketing propaganda. But not a deal breaker. Just buy a programmable dimmer/timer if you want that fancy stuff. I bought one today, review coming soon.• Dimmer/timer.o Again, Its not programmable, so its just an off timer. 3 hours, 6 hours or 12 hours. What if I want 10 hours, if its what I need. It’s useless so I don’t use it. I have a WI fi plug connected to it set to come on at 9 am and turn off at 7PM, 10 hours. That cost me 4 dollars. Well worth it, but that is another review.o No memory recall after power loss and default is WHITE ON 100% | RED/BLUE ON 100%o Due to above wifi plug I use, it loses memory every night because I cut power to it. So the fish are awaken every morning by the GREAT GOD of SUNLIGHT shining through their little a*** at the peak of dawn!!!! This is an economical light, so I didn’t expect it to have a fully programmable EPROM chip installed with full dimmable capabilities at this price point. Not a negative.This product is 100% recommended for a cheap, well built, long lasting, bright LED, slim, sturdy, strong and sleek designed LED lighting fixture for your aquarium, planted or not planted. This is a great light! I have a 10 gallon live planted tank that I’ve had up for about a month now (shown in pictures, the silk plant is temporary until plants grow a bit more) and I purchased the 9 watt 12-18inch light and it fits and functions beautifully for it. I’m often away for weekends so having the timer is great, I add an auto feeder and I’m set!The pictures show the light across my 10 gallon tank on dimmest light red blue and white, full brightness red blue and white, and dimmest red and blue only “night light”Quick run down on timer and functions. This light as 5 brightness options, 3 light modes and has a timer only 3, 6, and 12 hour options (LED light on controller turns orange, green, then red respectively), that’s all in the description.Here’s the important part, you turn your light on to desired brightness and push the timer button to select time option you want, let’s say 6 hours. In 6 hours the light will turn to it’s LOWEST light setting, in the mode you selected, NOT off, not into the “night light” mode. Then at the time you originally set the timer the next day the light will resume to the brightness you set it to.This light is powerful, I do not run it on full brightness because algae blooms quickly. I use it on the 6 hour timer at the 3rd light setting (if dimmest is 1 and brightest is 5, so right in the middle) since my plants are low to mid light plants they do fine with just half.NOTE (12-18 inches is misleading as a 10 gallon tank is 20 inches long but with the wire extension holder you can span 20 inches with ease, and even 23-24 inches with minimal sagging)

Bright light with 3 color modes and dimmer and timer options.
I LOVE this light!!! I have a small tank and I’ve been seeing some pretty neat looking full spectrum LEDs but most were too big for my tank and some were made to hang over the tank via cables. That’s a hard no… I try to hide any and all cables if possible and I definitely don’t want any unnecessary lights in my view as my tank is in front of my recliner. So I found this beauty. It’s extremely bright which I love. It definitely gets to all corners of my tank. Keep in mind, I have a 15 gallon hexagon so the width is only about 16 inches. It fits PERFECTLY under my hood light without being seen, like it was meant to be. There are about 4 or 5 different dimming options and 3 different color modes. You can choose between all white, red and blue and lastly all 3 colors. I always use the multi colored options, I feel it gives a prettier look to the tank. I have my lights on my existing timer to go on in the morning and off at night. I dim the tank throughout the day to mimic the sun setting but what I realized after I used it first was.. the next morning it reverted back to the brightest setting which I LOVED. I worried it would still be on the lowest dimming option. It has a timer option but I have never used it because I like to use my own timer. When it arrived it came with the plastic brackets attached and I was worried I would have to break them off because I wanted only the light part to sit flat on top of the glass under my hood light. Luckily, they slide right off, easy peasy. I will update if I come across any problems. But so far A+ and highly recommend!

After using this light for a few weeks, I’ve realized it is way under powered and not that great for plants. The wattage is way too low. Upgraded to a different brand with better wattage and controls. Can’t return as Amazon wants me to pay shipping and be refunded. Don’t have time for that. Hopefully I can resell. There are better lights out there for the same price that will grow plants.
